Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The Pensions Ombudsman is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

The accessibility audit retest carried out by DAC identified the following inaccessible content. We continue to work through the issues raised and have recently published a new online application. A further retest will be carried out by May 2022.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

When using reflow options content loses structure and functionality which may cause difficulties for users who require varying magnification options. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.10 Reflow (Level AA). We will ensure that all content remains accessible for all users who are navigating the page using varying magnification methods.

Non-descriptive links have been used on some buttons which may cause difficulties to screen reader users. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) (Level A). Some buttons have already been reviewed and the issue has been partially addressed. We will continue adding more description to the remaining links to inform users of the purpose of the links.

Some headings have not been marked up as headings and some are non-descriptive which may cause difficulties for screen reading users. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A) and 2.4.6 Headings and Labels (Level AA). The issue has been partially addressed and some areas such as PDF and other documents text is now marked up as H3. We will ensure that remaining headings are marked up as such and descriptive to allow screen readers to easily identify the purpose of all headings.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix previous Decisions uploaded before 23 September 2018.

We are going through a process of fixing documents published on or after 23 September, this work continues and will be complete by end of May 2022.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We will audit the site to cover accessibility issues following any major changes to the functionality of the site.

We will then audit the site once a year to cover accessibility issues.
