Local Government Pension Scheme (CAS-68743-S6K4)
Ombudsman’s Determination
Outcome
Dr R’s complaint against SPPA is partly upheld. To put matters right for the part that shall be upheld, SPPA shall pay Dr R £1,000 for the serious distress and inconvenience he has experienced.
My reasons for reaching this decision are explained in more detail below.
Complaint summary
Dr R complained that SPPA misinformed him about the cost of purchasing his outstanding Past Added Years (PAY) in the Scheme.
He has said that both the inaccuracy of the estimate and the delays in receiving it, affected his decision to retire. He has also said that he had been financially impacted as he could no longer buy back the PAY.
